We will address the issue of domestic violence in a manner that brings about real change by removing the perpetrator not the victim from the scene, by strengthening intervention orders, ensuring much stricter enforcement of them and providing effective punishment for their breach.
At the root of the solution to this stain on our society is education. Not for the adults for whom it is too late, but for the children who need to be given a solid understanding of the respect that each person, no-matter of what gender, is entitled to expect and to receive. Educative programs should be introduced in all schools to help children at all levels, understand the nature of this problem.
We need a public education campaign to increase reporting of domestic violence to police and a highly responsive police force with specially trained units for timely intervention to help prevent further deaths.
